BECK'S BOMB
"Beck's Bomb" is a "work in progress" that promises to be of the more unique cars ever built on the West Coast. American Roadster was contracted by owner, John Beck (left) to create this one-off all tube chassised 1931 Ford with the goal of being able to not only drive the car to Bonneville, but then run 200 MPH on the salt before driving it back home to California.
Combining an old car with new technology, the frame is built out of mild steel tubing to NHRA specs utilizing chromemoly for the drive shaft tunnel and roll cage. Fitted all the way around with coil over shocks with the front end being internally mounted at an unusual angle to accommodate the highway and Bonneville driving goals. Rear suspension has QA1 coil over shocks, a V-8 AR quick change rearend, and Pro Stock Chassis Works rear end locator bar good for 1200 HP. Initial power will come from a bored and stroked 348 Chevy with a T10 manual 4-speed and Lakewood clutch can.
Another unique feature are the wheels. It took 12 stock wheels to make up the four on the car which were widened to accommodate the HP Firestone rubber. The car is currently at the body shop getting chopped and straightened. When it returns, American Roadster will install the drivers cage, steering, pedals and other finishing touches. Project updates will appear on this page.
